Community Gardening Info
The essence of community gardening is giving space for people interested in growing their own food but don’t have their own space or resources to do it. It’s appealing to many people for a variety of reasons. With community gardening in Lynn, you’ll need less tools than with your standard home garden, and the food is more fresh too. It’s grown completely locally, and on top of that, it can be grown by your own hands so you know exactly what’s involved in the process. The effort put into gardening is certainly rewarding when you can harvest and eat the fruits of your labor. You can also grow food you personally want to see, such as culturally relevant herbs, specific parts of a plant often removed in processing at grocers, like corn leaves, or even just a variety of squash you don’t see in stores.
Lynn has many community gardens, such as the Warren St Community Garden, Lynn Tech Community Garden, Lynn Medical Village Community Farm, Linear Park Community Garden, Wall Plaza Garden, Ames Playground Community Garden, Curwin Circle Garden, Meadow Court Garden and the Cook St Community Garden. All these gardens have dozens of plots available for community members to sign up for and use. To learn more, look at our Gardens priority page!
To show some love to the community gardens, this summer Lynn Grows will be hosting Community Garden Care Days! Our first one will be Saturday, July 29th at the Warren St Garden from 10:30am to 12:00. We’ll be painting the beds together, planting some perennial plants, and doing a community swap! If you have seeds, seedlings, or plants you grew you want to share, come to the event and you can go home with something new yourself! It’ll be a great way to get out in the sun, learn more about community gardens, and help brighten up the Lynn community!
